Hi, my name is Anthony.
I really want to get real with you for a minute.
So on that note:
Let me introduce you to my story.
I was born in Ghent, Belgium.
I struggled a lot in my childhood. Since the beginning of my journey as a kid, I always thought life was about “fitting in”. The first 16 years of my life were all about trying to match the expectations of my social environment (school, family, etc.). By then, I didn’t really realize that this simply didn’t work for me.
As a child, I often got bullied. I was aggressive and didn’t trust other people. On top of that, my parents divorced at a moment where I was going through a critical growing up phase of my life. This didn’t make things easier.
At secondary school, I used to just sit in class with no idea of who I was and what I was good at. Not knowing any better, I did what the ‘cool guys’ did: drinking at the bar, watching sports, and playing video games. I had no single idea what I wanted to become.
After secondary school, I decided to study business at university. I was just focusing on getting good grades and following the herd. I didn’t feel special at all. I just did what was expected.
Suddenly, there was a breaking point: When I was 20 years old, I had the opportunity to study abroad in Madrid for six months.
The decision to do it changed my life.
I started to meet people from different countries, learnt a new language and fell totally in love with discovering new environments. It expanded my mindset and – for the first time in my life – I started questioning myself.
Who was I going to be in 5 years? What was I going to do with my life? What am I actually good at?
I started researching on the topic of success. I wondered what successful people did differently than other people. I remember browsing the internet for habits of successful people. One of the most common things, I noticed, was that all successful people read books and continuously educate themselves. They’re learning machines.
Out of curiosity, I ordered my first couple of personal development books on Amazon. I was hooked. It amazed me how much I could learn from just reading these books. Since then, I started reading more avidly, leading to the future creation of Book Success. Don’t worry, I’ll tell you about this later.
Anyway, from getting all these insights, I started to change my habits: from eating healthy, to going to the gym and caring about my most precious relationships.
When I came back from Madrid, people in Belgium hardly recognized me. The times I heard “You’ve changed so much” were uncountable.
I wanted more of this.
Exactly one year later, I was studying for a second period abroad in the capital of France: Paris.
I must say: these two experiences abroad really helped me to get to know myself. I was able to reflect on what I like and what I don’t like. Slowly but surely, I started to see patterns: I liked spending time by myself just reading and writing. For the first time in my life, I felt like I could make a unique contribution in this world.
After I came back from Paris, I started wondering what was possible for me. I always dreamt of going to the US and making a career there.
After a long discussion with my parents, I decided to move to the US for my masters in International Marketing. Before I knew, my dream had become a reality. There I was, 22 years old, and totally ready for one year in Boston, US.
In the meanwhile, I built an enormous passion for reading about self-help and business. I truly believed that if you are willing to work on yourself, you can make everything happen.
Therefore, not long after I arrived in the US, I created Book Success, an online guide for self-help and business books. After years of reading and taking notes, I felt that there was a lack of information in the market.
A lot of people are willing to improve themselves, but they don’t know where to start and which book to pick up. I saw an opportunity to link my passion for personal development with two of my greatest strengths: reading and writing. Today, Book Success is still growing and providing value to tons of self-improvement junkies out there.
Today, I can officially tell you that I’m ready for the future. I figured out what I want to do, what I’m good at and I want to start sharing my gifts with you.
Over the last couple of months, I gradually built my skillset in online marketing and branding. This came through a good dose of studying and – most of all – applying in real life. In the process of building a Book Success community online, I learnt how to utilize Instagram, Facebook, You Tube, etc.
I also started to create my own personal brand by putting myself out there, reviewing the best books I’ve read and sharing my lessons with thousands of other people. It felt so good to share something I created and was truly passionate about. It gave me such a feeling of empowerment and opportunity. In this process, I learnt about SEO, content creation, community building, etc. I got so excited about online marketing that I got my HubSpot inbound marketing certification.
The reason I created this personal website is because I want to provide value. I want to share with you the lessons that I’ve learnt along my journey to become a better person and “brand” and help you do the same.
With all the books I’ve read on business and personal development, and the experience I gained, I want to help you in achieving success online and building up your brand, either around yourself or your product or service.
Let’s grow together.
